How to Play Classic Sudoku

Sudoku is a logic-based number placement puzzle. The objective is to fill a 9×9 grid with digits so that each column, each row, and each of the nine 3×3 sub-grids (also called boxes or regions) contain all of the digits from 1 to 9 without repetition.

Rules:

  • Each row must contain the digits 1-9 without repetition.
  • Each column must contain the digits 1-9 without repetition.
  • Each of the nine 3×3 sub-boxes must contain the digits 1-9 without repetition.

Tips for Solving Sudoku Puzzles:

  1. Scanning: Look for opportunities to fill in cells by checking rows, columns, and boxes for missing numbers.
  2. Elimination: Identify what numbers can go in each empty cell by eliminating impossible numbers.
  3. Singles: Find cells where only one number can possibly go.
  4. Hidden Singles: Look for numbers that can only go in one specific cell within a row, column, or box.
  5. Advanced Techniques: For harder puzzles, techniques like pairs, triples, X-Wing, and Swordfish can be used.
